Phoenix Rose - Botography

Become a botanist in Botography, a cozy 2D adventure-exploration game. Navigate an uncharted whimsical region, where plants have unique and fantastical properties. Gather materials, grow plants, and utilize their abilities to discover the mystery of the forest and the secrets that lie within.

This is my senior project at Drexel University. I was one of the main animators for the game. I had a hand in all the key plant animations for the game.
This is the phoenix rose. It is one of the four panacea plants that are required to be collected in the game. The plant is to be brought back to the center of the island in order to restore the central tree to it's former glory. I created the animation within Procreate Dreams.

These are some concepts I came up with early in development for the pheonix rose. This was when it was only known as a special plant that needed to be collected, so I tried lots of odd designs.

The concept of the animation was reconceived by me. I wanted to put some more emphasis on the fire at the top of the flower and how it acted almost like a lighter.

This is the final rough of the animation. This was created when sketches had to be line art in order to move faster.
