Pipevine - Botography

Become a botanist in Botography, a cozy 2D adventure-exploration game. Navigate an uncharted whimsical region, where plants have unique and fantastical properties. Gather materials, grow plants, and utilize their abilities to discover the mystery of the forest and the secrets that lie within.

This is my senior project at Drexel University. I was one of the main animators for the game. I had a hand in all the key plant animations for the game.
This is the pipevine, it is used to fast travel between two points in the game. The plant requires two to be planted to be used, in which case the flower head will open up and allow the player to be sucked into it. The animations are all drawn by me.
I created the animation within Procreate Dreams.

These are magnified versions of the animations. The pipevine plant has two states, usable and unusable. The animation was built on ones, for 12fps.

This is the final polished design before it became simplified for the game.

These are the first concepts of the pipevine. These were created by Riley Chiang, but is included to showcase how it was concepted.

This is the final concept sketch created before a formal polished design was produced. This was created by E Berlin. These two images were very important in how I crafted the animations for the plant.
